Department Head: Mr. John Howland The Art Program is based upon the philosophy that through art production, the students develop visual perception and a personal aesthetic. When combined with a knowledge of art history, these allow students to make informed critical judgments which contribute to their system of values. At the high school level, that philosophy takes a more acute pathway in causing an art student to reflect on the kind of person our program ultimately would like to shape. One of the principal uses of art is helping the human mind cope with the complex image of the world in which we live. A student who becomes a positive and productive citizen of society, by exhibiting the characteristics of a: will foster a supportive context within the community for thinking. These characteristics form the broad outcomes for a student in the art program. |
