TI Connect(tm) Version 1.2 Copyright (c) 2003 Texas Instruments Incorporated All Rights Reserved ================================================================================ CONTENTS This file has been divided into the following sections for easy reference: 1. System Requirements 2. Notes 3. Known Issues 4. TI Support and Service Information ================================================================================ 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS -- PC Operating System: Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 95, 98, Me, NT 4.x, 2000, or XP -- Hard Disk Space: At least 15Mb available -- TI Handheld: TI-73, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, or a Voyage(tm) 200 -- TI-GRAPH LINK(tm) Cable: Serial (gray or black) or USB -- Web Browser: For functions that use your existing Internet connection, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater may be required. -- Display Properties: The graphics in TI Connect have been optimized for use with a Colors setting of at least 16-bit. You can adjust this in the Settings tab of your Display Properties window. ================================================================================ 2. NOTES -- The Windows 95 and NT 4.x operating systems do not support the use of USB devices, such as the USB TI-GRAPH LINK cable. -- On Windows 95, some of the graphics in TI Connect may not display correctly. -- If you are using the USB TI-GRAPH LINK cable, you may need to add the hardware through your system configuration menu. For plug-and-play operating systems, plug in the USB cable after installing TI Connect and the system will find the appropriate driver automatically. For non-plug-and-play operating systems, you will need configure your system. Click Settings > Control Panel > Add Hardware. -- If you plug in the TI-GRAPH LINK USB cable before installing TI Connect, Windows may assign an incorrect driver for the cable. To correct the problem, see the Help section entitled "Re-installing your USB driver". -- On some computers, when a TI device is connected with the gray or black TI-GRAPH LINK serial cables, the cursor on the device will not blink and the device will not automatically turn itself off during periods of inactivity. The device is, however, still usable with TI Connect. -- Transfers using the TI-92 device (not the TI-92 Plus) with the black TI-GRAPH LINK cable will not perform reliably. -- The default name format for files transferred from the TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, and the Voyage(tm) 200 to the PC is: DirectoryName.FileName.89* DirectoryName.FileName.92* DirectoryName.FileName.9x* DirectoryName.FileName.v2* respectively, where * represents the data type designator. For example, a list named "heights" stored in the "main" folder of a TI-89 will become a file named "main.heights.89l" on the PC. -- The features of TI Connect only support communicating with one device at a time. ================================================================================ 3. KNOWN ISSUES -- Sometimes when using the TI-GRAPH LINK serial cable for Windows (black) to connect a TI-92 device to a computer running Windows 2000, file transfer may fail. This is not a problem with the TI-92 Plus device, the Voyage 200 device, or the TI-92 device with the upgraded RAM module. You might consider purchasing a TI-GRAPH LINK USB cable. -- When you transfer files to the TI-92 and Voyage 200 devices, it is possible to overwrite a file that is currently running on the device. Be sure that you close all Apps and files before transferring a file to a device. -- If the file name of an application variable (AppVar) or third-party data type you are transferring to a device begins with a digit, and that file exists on the connected device, TI DeviceExplorer does not ask if you want to replace it, it simply replaces it. -- Windows 95 and Windows NT may create a duplicate file when you transfer a file to a location on your computer where it already exists. -- While using a TI-GRAPH LINK serial cable (black or gray) running under Windows 2000, the connected TI device may not respond normally to user input and the Automatic Power Down(tm) feature may not function correctly, causing excessive battery drain. This is directly related to the behavior of the port hardware and software on certain computers. This problem does not exist while using the TI-GRAPH LINK USB cable. -- If you encounter any operating problems with the TI Connect software after you install both the TI Connect software and the TI InterActive!(tm) software, re-install the TI Connect software. -- The TI Connect software currently only supports Lab Reports as regular text files on the device with a file extension of .xxT. -- If some TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, or Voyage 200 device fonts, like the Greek alpha character, display incorrectly in the TI Connect software (sometimes they look like an empty box), you must re-install the TI-92 fonts on your computer. -- With some device operating systems, the TI Connect software is unable to determine the availability of newer versions of installed Flash applications on the TI Online Store (see Updating your Flash applications). Newer versions of these operating systems are currently in work and may be already available on the TI Online Store. If you update your device operating system to the newest version, the Updates feature of the TI Connect software will then be able to notify you of available upgrades to your purchased Flash applications. The affected operating systems are: TI-73: 1.5 and earlier TI-83 Plus: 1.13 and earlier TI-83 Plus Silver Edition: 1.13 and earlier TI-89: 2.05 and earlier TI-92 Plus: 2.05 and earlier -- TI Connect does not allow you to transfer any Flash applications to a: TI-83 Plus or TI-83 Plus Silver Edition with an operating system version of 1.13 or earlier. TI-89 or TI-92 Plus with an operating system version of 2.04 or earlier. This is due to an issue that, under very rare circumstances, can cause the device to become unusable. Version 1.60 of the device operating system for the TI-73, version 1.14 for the TI-83 Plus and TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, and version 2.05 for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus are included with the TI Connect 1.2 install. Use the Updates feature of the TI Connect software or use Microsoft Windows Explorer to update your device operating system. -- Since Microsoft Windows 95 does not support high-resolution graphics, some of the TI Connect software icons or buttons may not display properly. However, the TI Connect software will run under Windows 95. -- Firewalls may cause interference with the TI Connect software. They may make TI Connect unable to recognize attached devices and, in some instances, they may cause TI Connect to stop functioning entirely. -- Some software products that provide firewall protection against Internet intrusion may display a warning that the TI Connect software is attempting to connect to the Internet, track your Internet activities, or report back to TI Connect. This may be caused when the TI Connect software attempts to automatically check the TI Online Store for updates to the device operating system or Flash applications. The TI Connect software does not use cookies or any other means to track your computer or Internet activities. -- For Windows XP and Windows 2000, there is a compatibility issue when you use the TI-GRAPH LINK software with the black TI-GRAPH LINK cable. To resolve this issue, the black link driver service is turned off during installation. Because the black link driver service is turned off, the error message "Can't Find ComPort" opens when you try to use the black TI-GRAPH LINK cable after you install the TI Connect software. If you want to use the black TI-GRAPH LINK cable with the TI-GRAPH LINK software, you must restart the black link driver service each time you restart your computer. To do this, click Start > Programs > TI-Graph Link > Restart Graph Link Service. Note: This issue does not affect the use of the black TI-GRAPH LINK cable with the TI Connect Software. ================================================================================ 4.
